There are large outdoor sculptures of hands (open and otherwise) found in locations around the world. Many of these monuments are linked to themes of welcome, peace and healing.
One group has put together a listing of Peace & Other Monuments Using the Symbols of Hands & Handshakes. One especially beautiful monument is La paz en nuestras manos / Peace in our hands in Mexico City (Mexico).
The images used throughout this site started off as foundlings from the Internet. After finding one interesting image we decided on a visual theme based on large outdoor sculptures featuring ‘open hands’.
We’ve made some effort to find out about the artists who produced the sculptures, their locations, and the photographers. For some images it is difficult to determine either the artist who created the sculpture or the producer of the source photograph (in some cases there are many ‘reproducers’ who have not attributed the image source, for others no information was located). This page outlines what we have found.
If you have some information to add, please contact us.
